PIP: Strive for Progress not Perfection

Based on Yahelie’s last podcast, “Move for Progress, not for Perfection”(the podcast can be found on Spotify and Apple - The PIP Path),  I decided to write this blog post with the same theme. I found a quote: "Perfection is the enemy of progress," a classic aphorism frequently attributed to Winston Churchill.  As I write this post, I am reminded of my theory the PIP Path Model.  What is the correlation between the two?

The PIP Path Model is based off of the 3 principles we have been sharing over the life of this blog, our podcast (The PIP Path) and at a summer conference.  Passion, Innovation and Perseverance are the keys to life’s success.  Perfection is really something that doesn’t exist in any form even though we may find ourselves exclaiming, that’s perfection!  To live for perfection will lead to disappointment and failure no matter the success.  When we have a passion for something, we want to find it.  We innovate our decisions in order to find that passion we are seeking.  Then we must persevere in order to reach it. This is what we define as progress.  We are moving toward that passionate goal and making progress no matter how small it may be.  We must be reminded that each step is a victory no matter how small as we have made an effort.  In order to get more steps or bigger steps, we must innovate our processes.  This is what is meant by bringing PIP into the thought that progress in what keeps us moving forward.  Have you reached a goal and felt disappointed because it didn’t match what your idea of perfection was?  We often find disappointment in our lives because we set expectations, and those expectations are not met one hundred percent.  This is where perfection falls short.

Shannon L. Alder: "There is no perfection, only beautiful versions of brokenness." This quote reminds us that there are cracks, mistakes and even pain in our lives and in our journeys.  Nothing is perfect and we must look at our journey in order to understand this concept.  The journey is often found to be the success in our path, in our passion.  Our struggles, cracks make us unique and distinct in who we are.  We do learn more from our failures and mistakes than we do our successes. This is where the P in perseverance comes in.  Can you continue to climb and seek to reach that passionate goal?  Can you go back and reinvent your process in order to gain progress?

As I end this post, please think about the journeys you have traveled so far in this life.  Where did you quit?  Was it because it wasn’t perfect?  Many often believe that in a relationship things will be perfect, yet they find that once the relationship grows it becomes more work than expected.  Have you given up on something because of the work it takes? Use the PIP Path model to travel through your beautiful life. Accept the failures and brokenness in your life as a way to see yourself and others with more compassion. Understand that we all have a shared human vulnerability and celebrate the wins and turn your obstacles into opportunities.

Live with passion, strive with innovation and fight with perseverance!
